Every winter it is exciting to wait and see whether you can skate on natural ice in your own country. The climate is so changeable that we are not always sure whether we can skate, but that does not mean that we should stay away from the ice for a year. Check this list with 6 fun ice skating rinks in the Netherlands!
Ice Rink in the Netherlands
These are some of the nicest ice rinks in the Netherlands.
The Groninger Winterfestijn is indeed a real feast. For seven weeks you will experience the winter feeling on the Grote Markt. Skating for hours under the cozy lights, enjoying hot chocolate or mulled wine on the heated outdoor terrace or in the indoor bar. In the evening you can also dance to some classic après-ski hits! It doesn’t get more winter than this. In addition, there are also a lot of activities to experience, so keep an eye on their socials.
Ice Skating in Leiden
Last on the list is a floating skating rink! The track was built on the Nieuwe Rijn. Very unique! The skating rink is not big, but it is very magical in the evening, with all the Christmas lights around it. Unfortunately, the organization has decided not to open the skating rink due to the measures and safety of everyone. But he was too chill not to share. So don’t miss this one, next year!
- The ice rink is open from December 9, 2022 to January 8, 2023.
- Entrance: €8.50 – including skates
Ice Skating in the Heart of Amsterdam
ICE Amsterdam on the Museumplein is a must do during the winter in the capital. The skating rink is certainly one of the nicest places to get the skates out. In addition to sliding, you can also play ice hockey or curling with a group. Those who would like to dance on the ice can visit the Silent Disco.
Normally you can always visit Ice Village before or after skating, a very cozy Christmas market on the Museumplein. Unfortunately, that was canceled this year due to the measures, but Amsterdam has plenty of places where you can warm up with a delicious cup of chocolate milk or at the fireplace.
- The ice rink is open from November 28, 2021 to January 30, 2022.
- Entrance: €6
Skating on the Covered Ice Rink in Scheveningen
Cool Event in Scheveningen is open again this year! Skating is possible in all weathers because the ice rink is covered. You can find it on the Kurhausplein and it is no less than 600m2, enough space to skate a few rounds here. Cool Event also organizes some super fun packages such as company and group outings in combination with lunch, drinks or dinner. But there are also some other cool combinations such as ice skating and pizza, burgers, movie or even glow golf. Where you can supplement your trip to the ice rink with other cool activities from the neighborhood.
The skating sculptures that can be seen there are also very cool. Two large sea containers can be found on Pierplein and Noord Boulevard. Here you will find the ice sculpture exhibition ‘Let our future grow’ and ‘Stowaway’. They are free to visit, but donations are always welcome.
- The ice rink is open from November 13, 2021 to January 24, 2022.
- Entrance: €6.50 – excluding skate rental
The Ice Rink at the Christmas Market in Maastricht
One of my personal favorites is the skating rink and Christmas market in Maastricht, Magical Maastricht Vrijthof. It is so cozy with all the twinkling lights, giant Ferris wheel, warm chalets and of course the skating rink. The ice rink fits perfectly into the Christmas atmosphere.
Both the novice skater and advanced skaters can make some pirouettes here. And this year the skating rink is completely covered, so you can skate even in rainy weather. Have you skated enough? You can further immerse yourself in the Christmas atmosphere at the Christmas market, do some wonderful Christmas shopping or follow the lights route to get to know the city even better.
- The ice rink is open from December 2, 2021 to December 31, 2021.
- Entrance: €15.59 – 1x Ferris wheel, skating (including skate rental), 2x consumption
You can safely combine Magical Maastricht with a weekend in the city.
The Rainbow Skating Rink in Rotterdam
We open the top right away with a blast! The skating rink in Rotterdam has a tunnel of 400 meters and a track of 1600 square meters including rainbow lighting. That’s crazy! The course is suitable for young and old, beginners and advanced. There is a fun track next to the skating rink itself. This gigantic rink is suitable for novice skaters, schools, figure skater or even curling.
Events are also regularly organized, such as silent disco skating or theme curling tournaments. Would you like to learn to skate? That is also possible. Young and old can register for skating lessons. After all that exercise, you’re probably going to get hungry. Then you can go to the covered Winterplein where you can have a snack or drink.
- The ice rink is open from November 27, 2021 to March 4, 2022.
- Entrance: €7.50
